LED strip lights are assembled with individual LEDs placed at intervals along the PCB. When the light is on, each LED acts as a point source — creating a visible “dot by dot” pattern. This is especially noticeable when:

  • The LED density is low (60 LEDs/m or less)
  • The profile is shallow (less distance between LEDs and diffuser)
  • The PC cover is clear instead of frosted
  • The strip is viewed at close range or from an angle

For architectural lighting, retail displays, and visible linear fixtures, a dotless appearance is essential. The good news: with the right components, you can eliminate spots entirely.

Dotless Aluminum Profiles

The aluminum profile plays a critical role in the dotless effect. The depth of the profile determines how far the LEDs are from the diffuser — more depth means better light mixing.

Large Profiles (Naturally Dotless)

Large, deep profiles (50mm+ width) have enough internal height to mix light evenly. Even standard 120LED/m strips look dotless in these profiles.
