A customer once ordered CRI>90 strips, but after comparing samples side by side with CRI>80, he switched to CRI>80. Why? Because higher CRI means lower brightness. Understanding this trade-off helps you choose the right strip for your project.
CRIとは何ですか?
Color Rendering Index (CRI) measures how accurately a light source reproduces the colors of objects compared to natural light. The scale runs from 0 (worst) to 100 (perfect). Sunlight has a CRI of 100.
A high CRI light makes reds look red, blues look blue, and skin tones look natural. A low CRI light washes out colors and makes everything look dull or distorted.
Why Higher CRI Means Lower Brightness
Most white LEDs are made by combining a blue chip と yellow phosphor. The resulting spectrum is heavy in blue and yellow, but weak in red. Since the three primary colors are red, green, and blue — and red + green = yellow — the blue+yellow mix produces white, but with a red deficit.
This is why standard LEDs typically have a CRI of only 70-80. To boost CRI, manufacturers add red or green phosphor to fill the spectral gaps. However, these phosphors have lower excitation efficiency — they convert less electrical energy into visible light. The result: CRI goes up, lumens go down.
