A waterproof LED aluminum profile is a protective aluminum housing designed to install LED strip lights in areas where moisture, water or dust may be present. Unlike standard indoor channels, waterproof profiles add sealing features such as:

A complete waterproof LED linear lighting system normally includes: the aluminum profile body, an LED strip, a diffuser cover, silicone gaskets, and end caps and connectors. Together these parts stop water and dust from reaching the strip.

Why Use a Waterproof LED Profile?

IP Ratings Explained: IP65, IP67 and IP68

The IP (Ingress Protection) rating tells you how well a product resists dust and water. Choosing the right rating for the installation environment is the most important decision you will make.

For most architectural and commercial projects, IP65 or IP67 is sufficient. IP68 is reserved for underwater and long-term immersion applications. Choose the protection level based on the actual environment — a higher rating is not always better value.

How to Install a Waterproof Stair / In-Ground Profile

Installation of the Lightstec waterproof stair and in-ground profiles is simple — the profile presses directly into a pre-cut groove in the floor, step or concrete surface. Using our 295-D2513 mini profile as an example, follow these three steps:

Step 1 — Prepare the groove

Cut a groove in the stair, floor or ground with a width matching the profile. Position the profile directly above the groove and align its flanges with the surface edge.

Step 2 — Press into position

Press the profile down evenly until it seats into the groove. The flanges sit flush with the surface, protecting the strip and creating a clean recessed light line.

Step 3 — Add the LED strip and power on

Fit the LED strip into the channel, snap the diffuser into place and seal both ends. Connect your driver and power supply, then switch on — the profile is fully installed and ready.

Installation tips

• Always seal the end caps with waterproof silicone for outdoor or wet-area installations.

• Use a strip with a matching waterproof rating (IP65/IP67) for double protection.

• Cut and solder the strip before pressing the profile into the groove.

How to Choose the Right Waterproof LED Profile

1. Determine the installation environment. Indoor moisture areas (kitchen, bathroom) → IP65; outdoor landscape → IP65/IP67; underwater → IP68.
2. Match the LED strip width. Common strip widths are 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm and 15 mm — the internal channel width must fit your strip. Our series covers 8 mm (295-D2513, 296-D1713), 12 mm (131-D2126) and 15 mm (417-D3130).
3. Check the load requirement. For driveways and public walkways, choose a heavier profile (417-D3130). For light residential steps, the mini profiles are enough.
4. Choose the right diffuser. Clear = maximum brightness; milky/frosted = balanced diffusion with reduced glare; opal = best uniformity with no visible LED dots.
5. Verify accessories. Waterproof performance depends on silicone seals, end caps and connectors as much as on the aluminum body.
