360 Degree Round LED Neon Flex: The Complete Guide

When most people think of LED neon flex, they picture a flat strip that glows in one direction — mounted inside a profile or against a wall. But there is another category that lighting designers are increasingly specifying: 360-degree round LED neon flex. Unlike flat neon that only lights forward, a round silicone tube emits light in every direction, creating a true neon-tube glow that looks right from any angle. This makes it the go-to choice for hanging installations, circular rings, catenary curves, outdoor outlines, and any design where the tube itself is the feature.

In this guide, we cover everything designers, contractors, and procurement teams need to know about 360° round LED neon flex — how it works, dimensions, materials, IP ratings, installation methods, and product selection.

What Is 360° Round LED Neon Flex?

360 Round LED Neon Flex

A 360° round LED neon flex is a circular silicone (or PVC/PU) tube housing a flexible LED strip inside. Instead of emitting light from a flat diffuser on one side, the round cross-section disperses light evenly in all directions — 360 degrees around the tube. The result is a smooth, continuous line of light that looks identical to traditional glass neon tubing, but flexible, lightweight, and low-voltage.

Inside the tube, you’ll typically find SMD2835 or SMD5050 LED strips (often two strips back-to-back for even 360° coverage), running at 24V DC. The outer silicone jacket diffuses the LED dots completely, so the tube itself appears as a solid, glowing line.

360° Round vs Top-View Flat Neon: Which Do You Need?

Not every neon project needs 360° round. Choose based on how the tube will be mounted and viewed:

Značajka360° Round NeonTop-View Flat Neon
Smjer svjetlaAll directions (360°)One direction (front/top)
Najbolje zaHanging, rings, curves, freestanding, outdoor outlinesMounted against walls, in channels, signage
SavijanjeBends in any direction (free-bend)Bends in one plane only
Min. bend radius~30–50mm (depends on diameter)~20–40mm
Visibility from backYes — glows from all sidesNo — back is dark
Power drawHigher (two strips inside)Lower (single strip)

Rule of thumb: If the tube will be seen from all sides (hanging rings, catenary curves, freestanding sculptures, outdoor building outlines), use 360° round. If it mounts flush against a wall or inside a channel, flat top-view neon is sufficient and more cost-effective.

Dimensions & Diameters

360° round neon flex comes in a range of outer diameters, from slim 8mm tubes to heavy 30mm commercial-grade tubes. The diameter you choose depends on visibility, bending flexibility, and how much light output you need:

PromjerIzgled i osjećajTipična uporaba
Ø8–10mmSlim, delicateHome decor, small signage, tight curves
Ø12–15mmMedium, visibleCommercial signage, bar outlines, rings
Ø16–18mmBold, premiumArchitectural catenary, lobby features
Ø22–25mmHeavy-duty, high outputOutdoor building outlines, large rings
Ø30mm+Maximum impactLarge commercial installations, high-ceiling spaces

Most commercial projects specify Ø12–18mm as the sweet spot — visible from a distance but flexible enough to bend into shapes. Inner diameter must match your LED strip PCB width (typically 8mm or 10mm). Lightstec stocks 360° round neon in Ø12mm, Ø16mm, and Ø22mm, with custom diameters available on request.

Materials: Silicone vs PVC vs PU

The outer jacket material determines durability, weather resistance, and light transmission:

  • Silikon — the premium choice. Flexible down to -50°C, UV-resistant, won’t yellow or crack outdoors, excellent light diffusion. IP67/IP68 ready. More expensive but lasts 50,000+ hours. Preferred for permanent outdoor and architectural installations.
  • PVC — budget option. Good indoor performance, but can become brittle in cold weather and yellow over years of UV exposure. IP65 rated. Suitable for temporary or indoor-only projects.
  • PU (Polyurethane) — mid-range. Softer than PVC, better weather resistance, but less common. Used in specialty flexible applications.

For outdoor projects, always specify silicone. PVC may look fine at install day, but after 1–2 winters it will crack and discolor. Lightstec’s 360° neon flex uses premium silicone with UV-stabilized compounds, rated for -40°C to 60°C operation.

Key Specs: CCT, CRI, Voltage, IP Rating

Color & CRI

360° round neon is available in fixed colors (warm white 2700K/3000K, red, green, blue, yellow, pink, purple) and RGB/RGBW/RGBCCT variants. For decorative signage, fixed color is standard. For dynamic installations, choose RGBW (with a dedicated white channel) or addressable RGBIC for chase effects. CRI 90+ is available on warm white variants for hospitality and retail use.

Voltage: 24V

Always specify 24V DC for 360° round neon. The tube houses two LED strips (for 360° coverage), so power draw is higher — typically 9–19 W/m. 24V ensures even brightness across long runs (up to 10–15m per driver) and is safe for touch. 12V is only for short decorative runs under 3m.

IP ocjena

  • IP65 — splash-proof, for indoor and covered outdoor use
  • IP67 — dust-tight and can be submerged temporarily; standard for outdoor building outlines
  • IP68 — fully submersible; for underwater features, pools, and water fountains

Where to Use 360° Round Neon Flex

LED Neon Flex aplikacije

The 360° glow is the key advantage — the tube looks finished from every angle, no matter how it’s mounted. Common applications:

  • Hanging rings and circles — stacked concentric rings in lobbies, restaurants, and event spaces. The round tube glows evenly from top to bottom.
  • Catenary curves — suspended between two points across a courtyard, atrium, or bar ceiling.
  • Outdoor building outlines — trace rooflines, columns, and arches. Silicone 360° neon is UV-stable and IP67.
  • Custom logos and signage — 360° round neon bends into any shape. The tube itself is the sign; no channel needed.
  • Stair and handrail lighting — mount along stair nosings or handrails for a continuous glow.
  • Wedding and event backdrops — hanging circles, arches, and words create dramatic photo moments.
  • Retail window displays — floating circles and geometric shapes draw the eye from the street.

Installation Methods: Step-by-Step

360° round neon flex is designed to be cut, connected, and mounted on-site. Here are the three most common installation methods:

Method 1: Buckle / Clip Mounting

The simplest method — ideal for wall-mounted or surface-mounted installations:

Step 1: Measure & Mark
Measure and mark the mounting path on the wall or surface.

Step 1 Measure neon flex

Step 2: Cut to Length
Choose the matching PC transparent buckle (clip) for your neon tube diameter. Cut the tube at the marked cut point.

Step 2 Cut neon flex

Step 3: Fix Mounting Clips
Space clips every 30–50cm along the path. Fix each clip with M3 screws or strong adhesive.

Step 3 Fix mounting clips

Step 4: Connect Wires
Press the round neon tube into the clip until it clicks into place. Solder lead wires to the strip at the power end.

Step 4 Connect wires

Step 5: Seal End Caps
Install end caps (with silicone adhesive) at both ends, connecting wires at the power end. Ensure a watertight seal.

Step 5 Seal end caps

Step 6: Test & Verify
Test before finalizing. Power on and check for even glow, no dead spots, and secure connections.

Step 6 Test neon flex

Method 2: Horizontal Hanging (Suspension Wire)

For floating installations in lobbies, restaurants, and retail spaces:

  1. Plan the suspension points. Use stainless steel wire or suspension kits rated for the tube weight.
  2. Fix ceiling hooks or anchor points at the planned spacing (typically every 1–2 meters).
  3. Thread the suspension wire through the mounting loops on the neon tube clips, or use cable grippers.
  4. Adjust height level so the tube hangs straight.
  5. Connect power cables (use a flexible cable grip at the tube end to prevent strain).
  6. For circular rings, calculate tube length as L = π × D (circumference), plus 5% extra for end caps and tolerances.

For longer suspended runs, use a hoisting and docking system where the neon tube is clipped to a suspension cable and powered through a docking connector at one end. Commonly used for catenary lighting across courtyards and atriums.

Method 3: Telescopic Pole / Vertical Lifting

For adjustable-height hanging installations (retail displays, showroom features):

  1. Mount telescopic ceiling poles at fixed anchor points.
  2. Attach the neon tube clips to the pole ends.
  3. Adjust pole height to position the tube at the desired elevation.
  4. Run power through the pole (internal wiring) for a clean look.
  5. Test and lock the height position.

Installation tips: Always cut the tube and strip at marked cut points. Use silicone adhesive inside end caps for IP67 waterproofing. Test the strip before sealing the end cap. Never bend tighter than the manufacturer’s minimum bend radius (typically 30–50mm). Keep drivers accessible — never seal them inside a junction box without ventilation.

Često postavljana pitanja

What is the difference between 360° round neon and flat neon flex?

360° round neon has a circular silicone tube that glows in all directions — it looks like a finished neon tube from any angle. Flat neon flex has a flat diffuser that only lights forward, designed to mount against surfaces. Choose 360° round for hanging, floating, or freestanding installations; choose flat for wall-mounted signage and channel installations.

What diameter 360° neon should I choose?

For most commercial signage and hanging rings, Ø12–16mm is the sweet spot — visible but not bulky. Use Ø8–10mm for delicate home decor. Use Ø22–30mm for large outdoor building outlines or high-ceiling lobbies where the tube needs to be seen from a distance.

Is 360° round neon flex waterproof?

Silicone 360° neon flex is rated IP67 as standard — dust-tight and resistant to water jets. IP68 (submersible) is available for underwater installations. Always use silicone end caps and waterproof connectors for outdoor or wet-zone projects.

Can I cut 360° neon flex to length?

Yes — cut at the marked cut points on the internal LED strip. The silicone tube can be cut with a sharp knife. After cutting, solder the lead wires, then seal the end with a silicone end cap and adhesive. Always test before sealing.

What voltage should I use?

24V DC for almost all projects. 360° neon typically houses two LED strips and draws 9–19 W/m. 24V supports longer runs (up to 10–15m per driver) and is safe for touch. Use 12V only for short runs under 3m.

Can 360° neon be dimmed and color-changed?

Yes. Fixed-color warm white variants dim smoothly with PWM, DALI, 0-10V, or TRIAC. RGBW and RGBCCT variants work with DMX controllers for scene programming. Addressable RGBIC neon enables chase and animation effects.

How do I calculate the tube length for a circular ring?

Use the circumference formula: L = π × D (where D is the finished ring diameter). Add 5% extra for end caps and installation tolerance. For a 1.8m diameter ring, you’ll need about 5.9m of tube.
