G = control gear · C = control device. Both pools use short addresses 0–63. Groups and button/sensor instances do not consume additional device addresses.

Good to know
What should I count: lights, drivers or channels?
Count the control gear and control devices that sit on the DALI bus – typically one address per driver (gear) and one per sensor/panel (control device). A multi-channel driver still uses one short address per instance unless your product needs more. Check the data sheet for your driver’s address count.
Why do I need another bus when addresses are still free?
Each bus has a current budget as well as an address budget. If the combined load (including the 20% spare allowance) would push the bus current past the PSU’s guaranteed output, you need another bus even though short addresses remain. Current often becomes the limiting factor in dense installations.
Are these current values confirmed for my devices?
The preset values are estimates from typical DALI-2 devices. Replace them with the bus-current figures from your actual product data sheets before commissioning. A measured value beats a datasheet value, which beats an estimate.
How are buses and spare capacity calculated?
Devices are packed into buses in order. Each bus is limited by gear addresses, control addresses and current. Current includes a spare allowance (default 20% of load, minimum 10 mA). The headroom is the guaranteed current minus the used load and allowance.
What does the cable check include?
The cable route check looks at distance and conductor size for a DALI bus run. It is optional and off by default here. Confirm each installed cable route against the standard before commissioning; this planner does not auto-verify cabling.
Can I use this for DALI-1, D4i or a multi-supply bus?
The planner assumes a wired DALI-2 bus with short addresses 0–63. DALI-1, D4i data channels and multi-supply topologies have different addressing and current rules – apply those limits yourself or use a dedicated tool for that standard.
Can I save this plan and use it on site?
Copy the results or save an offline copy, then confirm your device data before commissioning. The plan is a capacity estimate, not a substitute for an approved installation drawing.
